Get Your Business Online West Sacramento Recap

March 29, 2014 by David Abramson Leave a Comment

I just got back from a day-long workshop in West Sacramento where business owners who don’t have a website are given a free website to get them started in having an online presence. It was a great event with lots of helping hands and people excited to get online.

I gave a presentation called “Ok my business is online. Now what?” to give business owners a glimpse into what they can do to make themselves visible online after they get their website and how to convert their site visitors into new and returning customers. Check it out! I should have the full video as well sometime in the near future. [Read more…]

Choose Quality over Quantity for your Website Content

October 29, 2013 by David Abramson Leave a Comment

Saw this video featuring Matt Cutts on an article at Search Engine Journal today.

He’s letting webmasters know that more pages on your website does not equal higher ranking on Google and advises against creating more pages with that goal in mind.

People won’t like you more because you talk whether you have something to say or not, so why should Google like you more for having more pages? They’ve been telling webmasters to focus on writing quality content that’s useful and interesting to people for years. Think about your website users and what they are interested in and want to see. Keep in mind what search engines are looking for, but write for people always.

October 7, 2013 by David Abramson Leave a Comment

Some of you might like to create your posts offline using Microsoft Word or another program before putting them online on your WordPress blog. October 3, 2013 by David Abramson Leave a Comment

I got an interesting (and amusing) email this morning through my website contact form, from an SEO professional pitching his services to help me rank on Google. It looked something like this:

Dear David,

Hi there, My name is Bill and I’m an SEO (search engine optimization) specialist. I’ve been looking through your site for a while and taking a look at your keyword rankings in Google and I believe we can easily work together. [Read more…]

Embracing “Beginner Mode”

On Being A Beginner

Last month, I took up rock climbing; something I haven’t really pursued since I was a kid at summer camps and birthday parties at our local rock gym here in Davis, CA. I’m not sure if it was the rediscovering of muscles long-neglected in my forearms or wondering where the “n00b routes” were, but there was no mistaking the fact that I was a beginner. [Read more…]

Rank on Google for Local Search

August 16, 2013 by David Abramson Leave a Comment

Q&A: How to rank on Google for local search?

Someone asked a good question this morning in a Facebook help group for Internet Marketing that I participate in:

“Is the general consensus that you can’t do a lot to get listed within a (search) result (‘Dentist Woodridge” for example’)? Or are there steps that greatly improve your odds? I used to think reviews were huge – but the more results I see the less reviews (if any) the other listings have” [Read more…]
